The Department of English in association with IQAC conducted a One – Day Faculty Development Program with the topic – ‘Competent Communication’ on the 27th of January, 2023 at 2.30 in the seminar hall. The event was inaugurated by our ever-enthusiastic Principal, Dr. S. Anil Kumar sir and our boisterous Director, Dr. Geetha. R madam, the Resource Person for the event Dr. Murali. S, Professor, Department of English, M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, alongside Dr. M. S. Nagaraj, HOD – Dept of Commerce and IQAC Coordinator and Mrs. Shabana, HOD – Dept. of English, with the lighting of the lamp to mark an auspicious start to the event with a spiritual invocation song by Shriraksha. D of III B. Com ‘D’ section.

The event started off with a fun, enthusiastic and interactive session of games conducted by the students of the English Literary Association, Veebha H. M., III B. Com ‘C’, Khatij Ul Kubra, III BCA ‘B’ and Prarthana. S. Narang, I B.B.A Aviation. The first game ‘Whispering Game’ is intended to strike a balance between coordination and hold over the language without the actual use of the language and the second game, simply named the ‘Emotion Game’ is to determine how well the faculty can communicate without the actual use of words or gestures with the given emotion. The students conducted the games with gusto and made a fitting platform to keep the faculty members engaged and alert for the Resource Person to cement his session.

The Resource Person for the FDP was Dr. Murali. S, Professor, Department of English, M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, whose vast knowledge, experience and fervour was clearly evident from the moment he held the mic till the close of his two sessions. The first session that Dr. Murali. S spoke on was the importance of understanding why we communicate in the way we do as teachers and how the communication in whatever medium or language it maybe, should involve empathy (for the students) and knowledge in order to achieve top levels of expertise in your field of teaching.
Refreshments were served and Dr. Murali. S took over his second session which entailed the importance of upgrading oneself to the current times. He emphasized the fact that students in the recent age have access to information that even the teachers lack and can access it quickly. Ergo it is important for the teachers to keep up to date with the things that concern their area of teaching and always strive to keep learning more and more, thereby negating being left out in the long run.
The event ended with the Resource Person indicating that communication above all should be competent and fulfilling to both the communicator and communicatee, a Two-Way process.
