The Department of Languages at SSMRV aims at offering students an opportunity to learn and understand languages that shape our foundation. Our in-depth analysis and training of these languages provide students with ample knowledge and confidence to communicate effectively. Here are the languages we offer:

Our Vision

The Department of English of Sivananda Sarma Memorial RV College strives to transform students into rational human beings with an inquisitive state of mind through literary, theoretical and linguistic teaching.

  1. To provide appropriate pedagogies (classrooms, equipment, resources, and technology) that will lead to a better understanding of the topics and their eventual success.
  2. To assure that students encounter creativity crucial to Literary studies through theater productions, Webinars and Seminars with professional writers and their own creative presentations.

Our Mission

The Department of English in Sivananda Sarma Memorial RV College seeks to provide students with an education of the highest quality in English language. Literature written in English as well as creative writing, judiciously combining tradition with contemporary writings. It encourages students to progress ardently to gain maximum benefit from their experience in the college, as well as English Department.

Objectives of the Department

  1. Enable the students to learn communication through interactive class sessions.
  2. The teachers help the students to express themselves in group discussions and class room discussions and debates.
  3. Reading activities and presentations in the class are a part of the English syllabus.
  4. We at the department enable the students to develop social responsibilities to become better students and citizens.
  5. Short Film activities help sensitize the students towards the society and the short films that are socially and morally relevant are chosen to be screened in the classes. This also enables the students in appreciating excellent films, as well as to make them understand the nuances of film making.
  6. The various aspects associated with the English Department are the Language Lab and Foreign Language Studies.

Language Lab

About the course

Language lab helps the students to learn basic and advanced grammar without any inhibition and intimidation from classmates. Individual computers and headphones are given to the students to learn without any distraction or discomfort.

Objective of the course

  1. To enhance the student’s knowledge of the various language oriented software that is available, it helps them in their day to day lives.
  2. It enables the students to have a better grasp over their communication through technology and helps in learning, without any hindrance.

Foreign Language Studies

About the course

The Department of English has taken up the reigns, in association with Inlingua Bangalore, to inculcate this practice of learning a foreign language to our students of all the streams which will help them propagate their career prospects overseas as well as to help them understand the culture of people.

Objective of the course

  1. The course aims at the acquisition of knowledge and expertise of the three major European languages (French, German, Spanish) as well as two major Asian languages (Japanese and Mandarin)
  2. To help the students apply this acquired knowledge in the given field under a corporate setting as well as other career related opportunities overseas.
  3. The course will also enhance their repertoire in terms of their credibility and also add value to their career profile.
